The Persian Traditional Instruments Program at the Vancouver Conservatory of Music offers an academically grounded study of Iran’s classical music heritage through instruments such as the tār, setār, and santur. Emphasizing the theoretical and practical understanding of the dastgāh system, the program bridges oral tradition with contemporary pedagogy. Students develop advanced technical skills, stylistic interpretation, and cultural insight under expert faculty guidance, preparing them for professional performance, teaching, and research within the broader field of Persian and Middle Eastern music studies.
Santur
- Prerequisite : No
- Duration : 30, 45, 60 minutes
- Class size : Private, in-person & online
- Age Range : 4 to 9 years
- Specification : Credit for VCM certification program
The VCM Santur program provides students with high-quality and personalized musical training, from preliminary level to level 10. After completing each level, students can register for the VCM Santur exams to receive constructive feedback from professional instructors and earn a VCM certificate.

- Etudes develop technical skills within a musical context.
Musicianship Skills
- A thoughtful and consistent approach to the development of ear training and sight-reading provides students with a solid foundation for independent creative musical explorations.
- Musicianship skills are developed to support the goals and requirements of both theoretical understanding and musical performance.
